For the series:

  • He Really Can Act: James Marsden's performance in the show was widely praised as a career best. Thanks to him being typecast as a basic Straight Man love interest for so long, seeing him do a role that flips the idea on its head was seen as ingenious, with Marsden's commitment to the bit made many realize he has excellent comedic chops most of his roles don't usually showcase.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Ronald Gladden was summoned to actual jury duty not long after the show's debut.
  • Spiritual Successor: To The Joe Schmo Show, another reality series featuring one "real" person unknowingly placed in a cast of actors to record his reactions. The first season, much like Jury Duty, features an extremely nice guy who did the virtuous thing at every turn and won over the actors duping him.
