- Audience-Alienating Premise: A movie about Arnold Schwarzenegger getting pregnant? And it's Played for Drama?
- Dancing Bear: Almost a Trope Codifier. The whole idea of this film is Arnold Schwarzenegger is pregnant.
- Memetic Mutation:
- "And now, Arnold Schwarzenegger is pregnant!"
- Arnie baby.
- "I want my Larry!"
- Narm Charm: Arnold Schwarzenegger as a scientist of genetics. Although Arnold himself has a good education and is a fairly smart businessman, his reputation of Action Hero did not allow him to take it seriously in this manner. So, this is also an example of Reality Is Unrealistic.
- Padding: Both those who wanted to enjoy this movie sincere and those who wanted to enjoy it ironically tend to have the same complaint that the Slice of Life scenes are played so straightforward that they come off as achingly dull.
- Retroactive Recognition: Anna Gunn as the receptionist of the maternity home.
- So Okay, It's Average: As bizarre as the plot is, most would consider it a relatively harmless bit of romantic fluff.
- Special Effects Failure: The Digital Head Swapping used for the Arnie baby probably would've been passable if not for the brightness of the baby contrasting with the dimmer lighting on Schwarzenegger's face.
- Squick: Diana and Alex have sex because she doesn't want to have a baby with a man she didn't have sex with. They do it a few days before Junior is born. We even get a shot afterwards of Alex's baby bump, which is bigger than a basket ball.
- Took the Bad Film Seriously: Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted to do this premise justice after watching his wife go through a miserable pregnancy and really did his homework on the behavior of pregnant women and the symptoms of pregnancy. On the one hand, he gives a surprisingly heartfelt performance, but on the other hand, why this movie, of all the ones he's made, would he not give a cheesy performance??
- Unintentional Period Piece: Pamela Reed's character is pregnant to Aerosmith's personal trainer, tying the film's setting to the Get A Grip tour in 1993-94.
