YMMV / Jungle Woman (1944)

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: One can take up Jungle Woman on its allusion to Dr. Renault's Secret and interpret Carl Fletcher as being Noel. His sympathy for Cheela, his disbelief that she and Paula are the same, and his horror over her violent tendencies becomes much more personal that way.
  • Stock Footage Failure:
    • No visionary camerawork or well-honed editing skills are going to hide the fact that the footage from The Big Cage is a decade older than the footage shot for Captive Wild Woman and Jungle Woman. The 1933 footage is much grainier and crude than the 1943-1944 footage and on top of that ten years is a long time for women's fashion. If nothing else, one can tell from the hats that the women in the audience weren't filmed in 1943-1944.
    • Director Reginald LeBorg tried to lift up the film by suspensefully keeping Paula's transitional and gorilla forms out of view until the final scene. Evidently, it escaped him that Jungle Woman would be reusing footage from Captive Wild Woman in which Paula-Cheela in all her forms takes center stage in several scenes and that this footage is what Jungle Woman opens with.
