YMMV / Jungle Juice

  • Accidental Innuendo: There's a handful;
    • From Chapter 30, from Dohwa fighting with Hyeseong about where to plant Team A's flag:
Dohwa: Hurry up and stick it in!
    • From Chapter 37, from Dohwa angrily looking for Hyeseong on Black Island after he hadn't come back to the hostel:
Dohwa: When I get my hands on his Goddamn katydid ass...
    • From Chapter 39, about Hyeseong and the insular gigantism of Katydids (noticing a pattern here?):
He has now acquired a new defense mechanism. The ability to dramatically enlarge his physical attributes.
    • From Chapter 45, from Hyeseong Kang (different person than Hyeseong Cha) to Dohwa while fighting against feed trained specimen on Black Island when a giant insect human approaches her:
      H. Kang: No Dohwa! Run! He's too big for you!
    • From Chapter 60, from Dohwa, talking about the exoskeleton of one of the Predators:
Dohwa: Damn it. I've never seen anything so hard...
    • From Chapter 72, from Suchan referring to when Junhyeong injected him with his venom:
Suchan: That time when you pricked me... I was knocked out until the next morning.
  • Awesome Art: Oh absolutely- of special note are the character designs for the numerous insect humans inside the Nest, each of which are each so distinct and striking that even random background characters can be tracked by their reappearances across chapters.
    • Not to mention the food; it's so detailed that it almost looks out of place with the rest of the already detailed artwork.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Specifically- Fanservice despite how everyone is part-bug, given how absurd it sounds on paper while still being completely accurate. Huijin Park is a perfect example, being quite attractive despite being a roach.
  • Fandom VIP: An entomologist by the username "Entomo" leaves fun facts about arthropods in the comments section of each chapter. Folk have gotten so used to this that Entomo gets top-comment almost always, and many of the early comments on chapters will be asking about where Entomo is.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Huijin Park's brother, Jeongjin, said that she shouldn't worry about money, and that he would make sure that she "at least got to college." Later on after he died, Huijin Park becomes an insect-human when she uses Power Killer, which Jeongjin bought, on a ton of cockroaches two classmates emptied out through her window as petty revenge. This itself was because Jeongjin had kicked one of the classmate's boyfriend earlier (as said boyfriend was being a jerk to Huijin). Now, if Huijin didn't become an insect-human, then she wouldn't have become a part of Nest University, and since Jeongjin is responsible for Huijin becoming an insect-human on two fronts, he really did make sure that Huijin got to college.
  • Fridge Logic:
    • Why would anyone use bug-spray on a Honeybee? (Or a Mole Cricket, Praying Mantis, Bombardier Beetle, or most Complexes shown really. In fact, this question is asked so frequently that it almost counts a meme)
    • The Group Tournament was created to decide which group among the freshman class would be on the taskforce sent to Black Island to locate Petshop's hideout, while undercover as tourists. That's all well and good, except for the fact that there are some students who simply cannot be disguised as regular, non-suspicious people as their bug features are just too obvious. Specifically Hwang Rida (who has four arms, hand claws, wings, and large moth antenna) and Jihwan Eom (who's got a shiny dark exoskeleton, massive horn, and is twice the size of a normal person) would basically be impossible to disguise as tourists.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • Jungle Juice turns people into insect-humans after they inhale the dust from the disintegrated insect, and just inhaling one dragonfly was enough to make Suchan puke. Now remember Huijin's flashback: there were enough cockroaches that they coated the walls and floor of Huijin's apartment, meaning that she had to breathe in at least hundreds of roaches. Gross.
    • On the topic of Huijin's past, Chapter 69 shows a flashback of her first encounter with Professor Ji, with him meeting her sitting in an alley, telling her that he was a teacher at the school she'd be living in. While this is sweet, remember that when Huijin first became an insect human she was 17 years old and in high school, and her hair was shoulder-length, but Nest is a university and in the flashback her hair touches the floor. Meaning after her brother died, she was living alone, broke, and homeless for two years.
    • Mihui, Suchan's first girlfriend, was so scarred by her experience with the Mantis Insect Human that she effectively has a breakdown months after the incident the next time she sees Suchan and goes into full hysterics. While Suchan was able to eventually move on and find friends he could relate to, she was so scarred by the incident that she couldn't and given that the incident was covered up along with the existence of Insect Humans even her relatives can't really help her.
  • Genius Bonus: Plenty in regards to bugs, unsurprisingly-
    • Huijin being a cockroach was foreshadowed with her earlier statement that her complex was similar to the Mantis; both of these insects are in the same superorder Dictyoptera.
    • The orb of water around Breeder's head was a give away that he was a Diving Bell Spider.
    • The way Daun carries Hyeona while hanging from the ceiling on a line at the greenhouse is reminiscent of a bolas spider carrying a moth.
    • The holes in the sand where he and Dohwa were, plus the fact that he had wings likes a dragonfly, were clues that man Breeder had sent was an Antlion.
    • Even in the darkness while concealed in a cloak, the eyestalks and pink coloring were enough for some to figure out that one of the Predators was an Orchid Mantis.
    • While a number of employees at Nest are pretty obviously ants, the headwear and jaws of the Special Task Force members are those of Eciton burchellii majors; in other words they're Army Ant soldiers.
    • Dohwa dropping her Gauntlets to a lower level while using Poison Lance mirrors how scorpions with deadlier venom have smaller claws than those with milder venom, as they rely less on brute strength.
  • Les Yay: A notable amount of the comments ship, along with the hinted at pairings like Suchan & Huijin and Hyeseong & Dohwa, Hyeona & Daun together. Probably on account of the vast majority of their appearances being as a pair, with Hyeona often holding or being linked to Daun in some way, and the entertaining dynamic they have with the main pairing Suchan and Huijin. Both Hyeona's and Daun's distinct reactions to Huijin nearly going topless during the Group Tournament also likely helped give the impression that neither of them were exactly straight, despite also displaying attraction to Suchan.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: When major character Huijin Park got stabbed and "died" right after she and Suchan entered the Warehouse, despite how neither her backstory nor Complex was revealed yet, it's safe to say that nobody thought she was really dead. With that said, when her backstory and Complex was revealed, and then she got completely impaled saving Suchan, folks were a lot more worried.
    • Happened again with Huijin Park much later on, with even less people being worried than the first time despite her taking an even worse injury. Unlike the first time however, the disbelief wasn't for narrative reasons, but rather because of Huijin's Complex as a cockroach, which are specifically infamous for being able to live a week without their heads. Thus, few were worried for Huijin's safety even though she was decapitated.
