YMMV / John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Lennon's brief impression of the Cookie Monster in "Hold On". Also counts as a funny moment.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: A lot of fans consider this to be Lennon's first solo album. Though he and Yoko Ono made three joint albums together before this, many fans are put off by their Avant-Garde sound and thus disregard their existence altogether.
  • Tear Jerker: A lot of the album, but a few cases stand out:
    • "Mother", one of two songs in which Lennon works through his mother's death and his Parental Abandonment issues (despite its title, both of his parents actually abandoned him during his youth).
    • "Remember", due to its very bleak lyrics and music.
    • "Love", proof that sometimes less is more in music. Doubles as a Heartwarming Moment.
    • "God", particularly the end, though it's another Heartwarming Moment.
    • "My Mummy's Dead", sung mostly to the tune of the children's rhyme "Three Blind Mice", with simple, childlike lyrics, and about Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Lennon sings the song in an emotionless monotone despite the gravity of its subject, which is actually Truth in Television - people working through grief may often feel emotionally numb, as it often triggers serious psychological disorders that cause them difficulty in feeling or expressing emotions. This is generally interpreted as a coping mechanism by the brain to avoid being overwhelmed with emotion. In any case, the song is quite the Downer Ending.
