• Adorkable: Flare's Fish out of Temporal Water status makes him endearingly awkward, like the time he's shocked and dejected when he learns that every shop he wanted to visit is closed for the night. His sheer sincerity and sweetness makes him refreshingly friendly in a genre full of hypercompetent protagonists.
• Angst? What Angst?: For someone who suffered in Hell for 1,000 years in indescribable agony, Flare is surprisingly cheerful and upbeat as part of his mindset as The Anti-Nihilist. Even the news of the shaman village he grew up in dying out doesn't really get him down, to the point that he wonders if he's a heartless bastard for thinking this way. This starts changing when he learns that he Church of Angels is responsible for the destruction of the shaman village.
• The Scrappy: Aishera is instantly disliked by a sizable portion of readers for her Psycho Lesbian antics. Not only for being disrespectful to the LGBTQ+ community, but for just being plain annoying as she finds every little reason to needle and attack Flare and generally acts like an Ungrateful Bitch even after he saves her life time and again.
