YMMV / Jeppe from the Hill

• Adaptation Displacement: Jeppe is based on similar stories from folklore where underdogs are suddenly placed in positions of power (see e.g. Arabian Nights). However in the earlier stories, they usually turn out to be better and more just rulers than those they replace.
• Jerkass Woobie: It is hard not to feel sorry for Jeppe, but he IS a lazy, selfish and untrustworthy alcoholic - and he becomes really nasty when he is given a taste of power.
• Memetic Mutation: The play has delivered a lot of Danish memes:
  • "I feel like Jeppe in the Baron's bed" (a common saying when you feel well treated).
  • "People say that Jeppe drink, but they don't say why Jeppe drink."
    • It is sometimes expresses in a shorter version: "Why does Jeppe drink?"
  • "Am I dreaming, or am I awake?"
  • "Another glass of Carnalje-Sæk!"
