- Americans Hate Tingle: Paths of Glory was not well-received in New Zealand because it claimed that someone else had reached the summit of Mount Everest before national hero Sir Edmund Hilary did so in 1953.
- Critical Dissonance: Critics tend not to like Archer's novels, but that doesn't stop them from selling very well. Which make him somewhat Critic-Proof ... as a novelist, at any rate.
