YMMV / Jailbreak (Roblox)

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: When stealing objects in Jailbreak, you'll get a prompt that says "Grab (object)". So since one of the objects you can rob from the museum is a model of Uranus...
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: For those able to get their hands on a helicopter, whenever the Cargo Ship appears, expect a lot of players to go for it, the reasons being that it has one of the highest payouts in the game, and is a reliable source of XP farming for police.
  • Demonic Spiders: The Bandits are single-handedly responsible for making the revamped Airdrop into That One Level, but two of their Glass Cannons are the most notorious:
    • Chasers move about as fast as a player under the effects of an Energy Drink, and move erratically enough to make your shots miss while they shoot point-black shotgun pellets for massive damage.
    • Snipers, while immobile, are capable of dealing massive damage thanks to their rifles, and are guaranteed to have always accurate shots unless you take cover.
  • Game-Breaker: The Flintlock-Sniper combo. Done wrong, and expect to see long reload times. Done right on the other hand, and it's an instant death combo. This combination is so game-breaking that it's often cited for the reasons why a certain contract is so difficult to achieve (see That One Sidequest) and probably a good reason why the combo was nerfed, though the fact that the enemy is barely standing allows for an easy finisher or arrest.
  • Good Bad Bugs:
    • There are multiple ways to be able to reuse weapons before entering the Volcano Base as a criminal during the Museum robbery, one of them using the Jetpack to fly briefly, then landing to regain usage of weapons. All of them were fixed in various updates, unfortunately.
    • You can succeed the "Take down X Police without dying." contract by shooting down Criminals as Police. Oops.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Event or not, due to the amount of players playing as police "camping" in certain areas to arrest criminals. It's really frustrating when you spend some time robbing the bank, jewelry store or museum only to suddenly end up in handcuffs when you get out. It gets worse if you get onto a server where at least one officer keeps arresting or shooting criminals and prisoners after they do something that makes them open for an arrest. Various updates that have benefited the criminals did somewhat migate this.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: The Crew Capsule is by the most disliked of all the Season Pass rewards. While it does have flight, it's so slow that a Jet is able to shoot you down, and while it does have the option of being spawned in a garage, the other Season Pass reward, Celsior has the same max altitude as the Crew Capsule but discards seating capacity and space for higher speeds, making it outclassed even within its niche.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Police used to be one of the most disliked teams around, largely due to their reputation as campers and lack of money grinding compared to criminals. However, the update which added the Cargo Ship robbery which allowed both Police and Criminals to make money from, alongside the combination of the Bank Truck being available to protect and the reintroduction of contracts has largely improved their reputation. While it still has their detractors, they're agreed to be in a much better position than before.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • Anything involving quitting a mission or mission failure, since it involves waiting a (thankfully short but annoying) timer to complete the objective. Considering that how certain missions involve failure (especially the Arrest "a certain amount of money" worth of criminal bounty without dying) tend to have high failure rates, this can be quite annoying and often complaints about padding out.
      • Speaking of which, you can only re-roll contracts if the contract hasn't been failed. If it was, then you need to wait out the timer until you can re-roll the contract, which can be bad news if you're in the middle of a firefight or a hacker spawnkilling you. Granted, the latter problem is rare, but it can be quite frustrating to wait out the timer to re-roll the contract you dislike. Also, you only get one re-roll per contract; if the re-rolled contract happens to be one you don't like, tough luck. Season 13 later made it so that you can re-roll contracts infinitely, squashing this issue.
    • Also, while the Bank Truck, Museum and Tomb have been well-received for the most part due to the high payout and manageable difficulty, the method of starting them- not so much. You have to get another player to interact with the heist (and in the case of Tomb, three). Problem is, either not many players will notice how to even start it, and those that do have trouble convincing others- either they're ignored or are too busy with something else. You pretty much need a posse to start these, and god forbid Police and Criminals collide with each other...
    • How you get Keycards. For starters, you only get Keycards by having a chance to get them from pickpocketing Police, either having a chance for them to drop it upon their deaths, or getting it from the Cargo Plane. Problem is, the former method is pure Schmuck Bait unless you successfully bribe the cop, said cop can shoot you in desperation which can be bad news if you're doing contracts as stated above, and the latter is a Luck-Based Mission. Fortunately, only the Bank is required to have a keycard, and the rest of the Keycard-accessible locations can be easily reached through other methods.
    • For some reason, the contracts involving arresting criminals don't count those arrested by combat-logging, making it frustrating to arrest a criminal with high bounty yet it doesn't count towards the contract involving arrests.
    • Players aren't allowed to equip any item for a brief moment after they spawn. This is a major issue for Police, mostly because of the fact that if the Criminals are in a bad mood, they can potentially spawn camp the Police without drawbacks.
  • Scrappy Weapon:
    • The AK-47 used to be this, as in its early days, it had terrible DPS and couldn't even kill a player in one clip, leading to an early community nickname of "water gun". However, after a damage buff it received during the Weapons/Items update, many argued that the buffs worked a bit too well, resulting in it becoming one of the best weapons in the game alongside the Rifle and the Uzi, and another update made it even worse, as the damage was buffed from 7 to 9, meaning that it could easily drain a player's health from 100 to 0 within seconds, at least until an update in October 3, 2018 reverted it back.
    • The Plasma Pistol has quite the rocky history when it came to balancing the gun. Upon its initial release, players were hyped to see it since it was capable of countering the Force Field, which was notorious for containing only one weakness to the Rocket Launcher, which was a very expensive and impractical option. Upon its release, however, it was quickly panned for its low DPS, not to even mention that it took about 3 magazines to kill a enemy. A later buff managed to halve the magazine size in exchange for extra damage, which helped out its DPS for a while. Unfortunately, it was later nerfed to have only two magazines that can only be refilled through revisiting the armory, thus placing it in "water gun" territory once more. Eventually, the nerf was reverted, making it much more useable.
  • That One Achievement: Of all the obtainable badges from the game, "Bonnie & Clyde" is regarded by many to be one of the hardest. For starters, you have to uncuff a fellow prisoner before taking down the cop. Considering that said cop is likely to be very arrest-happy and willing to use force unless distracted, this is a mere exercise in insanity, and requires a well-coordinated team to pull off. Unfortunately, it seems that Badimo didn't learn their lesson regarding feedback of this badge, and as a result...
  • That One Attack: The CEO's attack from his right arm is by far the most deadliest of his attacks, since it is always accurate unlike the CEO's laser attack, and can only be blocked by using the barriers that is used to protect him, though good luck if you don't have any ammo.
  • That One Level:
    • Bank Heist has become this thanks to the July 2021 update. This heist was a semi-decent way for Criminals to make money, and was one of the first heists to be released. However, that all changed when the Police HQ was added to the game. Where is that location, perhaps? Well, it's right near the bank. Because of this, robbing the bank is much harder than usual given that police will spawn right near it just in time to arrest the criminals involved. The Presidential Vault bank floor deserves special mention, because even the police can have trouble entering the vault to arrest all the criminals inside the bank, due to the moving lasers that can throw multiple players off even without lag, resulting in multiple failed attempts to enter the vault. Quite fittingly, it has one of the biggest payouts in the game at around $7,200.
    • Museum is this for one reason: Aside from needing at least two players to enter the heist, you need to activate two switches to exit at the same time. If you're the only one left, you're screwed pretty good, and this isn't even counting the cops who can camp at the exit to arrest you. To make matters worse, an update made it so that the police can shoot you through the windows. Needless to say, this can be a rude surprise for criminals who think they're safe behind the walls until the police shoots them.
    • Casino, more specifically, the first part. You have to search around the first area to find a code to open the door to the elevator, which grants you access to the security and vault rooms. However, some of the codes can be well-hidden without a guide to help, making finding it much harder. To make matters worse, there's a chance for the code to not even spawn, forcing players to brute-force the door code. Fortunately, once the code has been found, the rest of the heist is a breeze until the police arrive. Mercifully, the contract involving this is the only contract that doesn't fail upon dying due to the sheer difficulty of the first part.
    • The revamped Airdrop heist is a major pain to complete, in no thanks to the Bandits who can and will ignore your forcefield to riddle you with bullets. Furthermore, there is no indicator when the Bandits will spawn additional reinforcements, and compounded with the amount of time needed to open an airdrop, this means you can suddenly have Bandits dropping right into your face. And to make matters worse, while both Police and Criminals can shoot at the Bandits, in practice, the Police can use the Bandits as a distracts to sneak up on the Criminals to taze and arrest them, providing an unfair advantage to the Police unless they swarm them, which due to how airdrops don't have any robbery icons unlike the others, is not going to be noticed. And since this is the only way to obtain safes outside of purchasing them with in-game currency and obtain the Mansion Invite, good luck.
  • That One Sidequest: A few contracts have been proven to be very difficult. Most of them have been removed during Season 6, and those that did remain were simplified for the rest of the season until Season 7. Expect a lot of players to re-roll to avoid these:
    • For the reasons mentioned above, "Break someone out of their handcuffs!". Thankfully, unlike "Bonnie & Clyde", the defeat of the cop who arrested the criminal doesn't matter, and thus, the cop can be defeated before uncuffing the criminal.
    • Anything that involves popping tires, such as "Pop the tires of a criminal's vehicle!" and "Use road spikes to pop tires." Considering that 1. you can't fire at cars while driving unless you're a passenger, 2. you can't even use road spikes unless you're outside and know which roads are commonly used, and 3. Criminals tend to move very fast, this can be quite frustrating to complete at times.
    • Any contract that involves dying, since it's very easy to fail it via a nasty Game-Breaking Bug, very aggressive criminals and cops, and etc., though these contracts deserve special mention:
      • "Arrest (certain amount of money) worth of criminal bounty without dying." The Crooks Are Better Armed trope is in full force here, and unless you gang up on an unsuspecting Criminal, expect to see the "FAILED" screen a LOT.
      • "Rob the Cargo Train and Passenger Train without dying!" seems simple enough... Until you realize that due to the way how trains spawn in Jailbreak, there's a very good chance that the Passenger Train might not spawn at all, even when buying a train spawn in the Control Tower in nighttime or during a storm. What makes it worse is that if you die, you have to start over again. Season 6 later made it so you that you can rob either train once and you can complete the contract easily, but it later returned in Season 7, much to the dismay of players.
      • "Rob the Bank without dying!" and "Rob the Museum without dying!" See That One Level for more details.
      • "Rob the Money Truck without dying!" Aside from the fact that you're attacking a heavily defending Bank Truck which is notoriously skewed towards police without criminals using a Blackhawk, there's also the matter of starting the heist in the first place, as seen in Scrappy Mechanic. Expect to take potentially hours for the Bank Truck heist to start.
    • "Eat a Donut next to a criminal." Prior to the bugfix, it was pretty easy to get the Contract by simply eating the donut, since the range was bugged. However, after the bugfix, you now have to eat the donut in point-blank range of a criminal. Keep in mind, most criminals' reaction to a police approaching them is to shoot them instantly, which makes it frustrating to get close, though the Taser might help a little.
    • "Start a Bank Robbery!" Aside from the Scrappy Mechanic as explained above, if any other criminal starts it, you're forced to wait an long timer before you have chance to start another one. Oh, and while it doesn't have a cooldown timer, the amount of time potentially needed to get a keycard might as well be an substitute of one.
    • For the inverse reasons, "Bust a Bank Robbery!" While you do get access to the Bank regardless if you have a keycard or not as a police officer, the fact remains that if any other cop busts the bank robbery, you have to wait a good while before another criminal starts it (and they're far more unlikely to go over there without packing serious firepower).
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The redesign of the Museum brought some criticism: Most notably, the police can shoot through windows. While it does prevent criminals from waiting there until the police give up, it does nothing about the police potentially camping there.
