YMMV / It's a Boy Girl Thing

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: The poster appears to have the names over the wrong actors, but when you realize it's a body swap movie, it makes perfect sense.
  • Fridge Logic: At one point Nell-in-Woody's body is disgusted upon hearing Breanna describe (in a whisper, so we can't hear it) a sex act that she has clearly performed on Woody before and which she is offering to perform again. Nell-in-Woody reacts with horror, calling Breanna a "filthy little slut!" Of course, by the end of the movie, Nell and Woody are not only back in their own bodies, but together as a couple. The Fridge Logic comes in when you realize that, human nature being what it is, sooner or later Woody is going to want Nell to perform that exact sex act that so horrified her. Bear in mind, Nell starts out the story as an uptight virgin, so whatever it is that so mortifies her may come to seem not so bad.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Woody. He was throughly unpleasant towards the academically bright and studious Nell in the first half of the film, but we learn that deep down, he has his own insecurities. He really does want to succeed in school as much as she does, and fears that he'll end up working at a dead end job with his father.
    • Downplayed with Nell, who is overall less of a jerk than Woody. At first she was quite snooty and condescending, even to the point of correcting the most simple grammar mistakes. However, considering almost everyone around her act like morons or jerks, you can't really blame her.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general response from critics seems to lean somewhere in the middle (leaning slightly towards the positive end), with a 67% approval rating on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Overall, it's not seen as bad and is perfectly serviceable, but doesn't stand out quite as much as more popular body-swap movies such as Freaky Friday (2003).
  • Tear Jerker: The scene where after Woody and Nell switch back to their original bodies Nell, who had developed feelings for Woody, sees him and Breanna kissing each other and tearfully runs off. What makes this scene heartbreaking is that despite even Woody knowing that Breanna was just using him for her own personal gain, he still went back with her (albeit hesitantly). Thankfully, he ends up breaking things off with Breanna and chooses Nell.
