  • Awesome Music: The Pure opening among others.
  • Complete Monster: Samejima is a senior in Ichitaka and Iori's high school. When Iori's photo shoot makes her well-known, Samejima sexually harasses her and organizes a fake photoshoot of the female students in order to secretly film them while they're changing, with Iori being the real target. When Iori notices the hidden camera and tries to get out, she's almost raped by Samejima's underlings. After Samejima is expelled from the school, he and his gang lure Iori into a dilapidated building to try to rape her as revenge. Seemingly defeated, Samejima reappears and adopts the internet moniker "Marionette King", then sends messages declaring Iori as his "puppet" and his intention to rape her, kill her, and sell the Snuff Film of it. Even when he's defeated, the Marionette King can only think about raping and killing Iori.
  • Funny Moments: Teratani and Yuka's first forced kiss.
    • Ichitaka trying to play cool at the beach, when the others find him hiding.
Ichitaka: Hot damn! Check out this shellfish! I bet this could bring me FIVE HUNDRED YENS!
      *crickets chirp*
    • Itsuki flashing everyone during an art class… with a visible zipper on her naked suit
    • The first time Ichitaka charges against Iori's stalkers… suddenly armed with a club
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • The 3 gates walk.
    • Seeing Itsuki's heart breaking over the memories represented by her burnt sculpture of Ichitaka and Ichitaka trying to comfort her.
    • When Ichitaka finally confesses his love to Iori
      • Her response – "I thought it was one-sided..."
    • Their first love scene (in a Love Hotel… they end up not going through with it, but still)
    • When Iori wakes Ichitaka from his coma.
    • When Ichitaka and Iori take each others' hands in the finale scene.
  • Moe:
    • Aiko has shades of this. She's cute, adorable, friendly, a little helpless, sometimes goofy, and more than once forgetful.
    • Yuka arguably fits as well, particularly when she's trying to snag Teratani.
  • Moment of Awesome: Ichitaka and Teratani rescuing Iori.
    • Jun Koshinae and Iori are lured into a trap by Iori's stalkers who want to rape her. Next time we see them, the gang members are on the floor, beaten to a pulp while a furious Jun faces the leader, the Marionette King. The leader threatens Iori at knifepoint and gloats…
Ichitaka: *standing right behind him* "Shut your damn mouth."
    • The second rescue is one for both Jun and Ichitaka.
  • Tear Jerker: Several, especially toward the end.
    • When Itsuki's apartment burns to the ground and we get a scene of her and Ichitaka trying to salvage whatever she can from the wreckage… and she finds the now-damaged bust of Ichitaka she'd made years earlier.
    • Any time Ichitaka's chances with Iori are dashed and it isn't entirely his fault (though it often is).
    • Ichitaka's reaction when Itsuki leaves for America without saying a word, much less a goodbye.
    • The big one, and a rare positive example: the confession scene in Chapter 87.
      Iori: "I thought… it was one-sided."
    • The sequence late in the story where Ichitaka and Iori keep attempting to break up with each other, even though neither of them really want to. When Ichitaka spits it out first, they're both clearly devastated.
    • That moment when we see Iori's manager has been actively sabotaging Iori and Ichitaka's relationship (instead of passively encouraging them to end it, as we had previously been led to believe) by not mailing Iori's letters and packages to him. The dramatic irony on display here is heartbreaking.
    • Iori's reaction when Teratani et al inform her Ichitaka has fallen into a coma. She's surrounded by her handlers and can't say or do anything. As the overhead door closes and she's led away, we can see tears streaming down her cheek; she's using every ounce of self-control she has to keep herself from breaking down completely.
  • The Woobie: Comes up less often than you'd imagine, but nearly everyone takes a turn at this.
    • Itsuki when her apartment burns down.
    • Jun when he comes out, and implies he knows his feelings will never be reciprocated by either of the guys he likes.
    • Yuka when she's rejected by Teratani.
    • Aiko when she gets dumped.
    • Iori multiple times:
      • Any time someone she trusts takes advantage of her (which happens more than once).
      • Any time she's sexually assaulted (which also happens more than once).
      • When she confesses to Ichitaka that's she's not happy being an actress.
      • When Ichitaka breaks up with her in the name of helping her career because he didn't believe her when she confessed the above – he thought she was just saying what he wanted to hear.
    • Ichitaka when he falls into a coma after fighting The Marionette King and the past three years (that is, the entire series) seems to have been a dream.
