YMMV / Inspector Gadget (2015)

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?: Talon have all the reasons in the world to be way more angsty. He's mistreated and considered like dirt by the family he has left. All while having an example of a more loving family through Gadget and Penny. There is also the fact that Talon is attracted to Penny, who belongs to the opposite camp, leaving the question that, sooner or later, he 'll have to choose between his loyalty to his uncle and his crush on her. However Talon fulfills his missions without worrying. Similarly, Penny recovers quickly from the fact that the boy she had feelings for lied to her and was Claw's nephew all along. When she is confronted by Talon, while being attracted to the latter, it's Played for Laughs.
  • Foe Yay Shipping:
    • Between Penny and Talon, Dr. Claw's nephew. How much there is seems to depend on the writer, as in some episodes they are at each other's throats, in others they banter during their fights and in others still they borderline flirt.
    • In the Valentine's Day Episode, Claw actually gets Gadget as a match on a dating website. Obviously Claw is less than pleased.
    • The episode in which Talon disguises himself as Gadget's old musical partner has a running subplot about how Dr. Claw was a huge fan, which comes across like a Stalker with a Crush in several scenes.
  • Ho Yay: Gadget refers to several other different male characters as "lovely". His descriptions of Chief Quimby are even more romantic-sounding at times, and Quimby never protests.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Even fans of the original Inspector Gadget who don't like the 2015 iteration will happily admit they watch anyway simply because of the interactions between Penny and Talon.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • A lot of fans of the original series don't like the CG style of the new series.
    • Some fans are wary about Penny and Brain being directly involved in missions, as well as Penny having a romantic interest in Talon, one of the villains.
    • There have also been complaints about Maurice LaMarche not reprising his role as Gadget and the new theme song.
    • Another common complaint is that this series has Gadget Take Another Level In Jerkass, which only gets more exaggerated in the later episodes. Likewise, Dr. Claw's more childish depiction has also received much annoyance.
