  • Cult Classic: It flopped during its original release and fell into obscurity. Its rediscovery by the Furry Fandom (see below) helped give it a bump in popularity though and while it isn't usually placed among the adventure game greats, it's still praised in its own regard and has gained something of a small but devoted fanbase.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: A number of players have argued that the game puzzles are average at best and sometimes tedious, but the real joy of the experience comes from the surprisingly deep lore and lovingly crafted world that sits behind the game. May be one of the reasons its story was continued in webcomic form.
  • Popular with Furries: About 90% of the game's modern recognition comes from the cult following the furry fandom has developed for the game. The reason for the following couldn't be more obvious.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Talking to wandering NPC's is very frustrating especially when trying to give them something. As they walk around erratically and are sometimes offscreen or behind a building before you can properly click on them in time. The villages are quite large, but they can be halfway across it within half a minute. Rif walking about half their speed doesn't help.
  • That One Puzzle: The castle maze. Most of the mazes already aren't fun, but the dogs' castle turns it up a notch by foregoing the isometric view entirely and making the maze consist of more traditional adventure game rooms. This alone is already bad enough, but then add in the fact that said maze is one of the most elaborate in the game and the fact that you are constantly reorienting in direction and it's a huge pain to keep track of your bearings.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Despite humans having been presumed dead for an untold but obviously significant amount of time, it's clear that their technology before they went extinct was more advanced than what we have right now...up until you run across a giant beige computer complete with a CRT screen in some ancient human ruins (an airport).
