- Broken Base: There was something of a backlash when Martyn was accused of trying to make non-white people seem weird by choosing white skin for a character and saying that it was normal [for him, as in that was his skin colour in real life]. This promptly split the base between fans who felt this was Political Overcorrectness, an unfortunate case of poor phrasing that wasn't his fault, something he should apologise for even if it was accidental and people calling him a total racist. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the debate and some more extreme reactions led to Artist Disillusionment.
- Fandom Rivalry: Fans of his and Keemstar really don't get along, in no small part due to Keemstar's behaviour and the two's disagreement over Sam Pepper and Bashur.
- Friendly Fandoms:
- Fans of Martyn and the Yogscast had a good rapport even before he joined, in part due to their hosting Martyn's parody on Lewis Brindley and Simon Lane's channel.
- With Area 11, since Martyn and the band are very good friends.
- With Nerd³, due to their ongoing co-op series. Particularly notable, since fans of Dan and the Yogs tend to have a very on and off relationship.
