YMMV / Immortal Desires

Go To

  • Badass Decay: A good amount of players feel Lewyn and Astoria have gone through this in Book 2. With Parker being a vampire now, the Coven Leaders are no longer able to easily intimidate them and some of their punishments come off as Evil Is Petty, making the two of them look spiteful and immature more than anything else.
  • Base-Breaking Character: The two love interests, Gabe and Cas, are relatively divisive.
    • Gabe is seen by some as either sweet and charming, and admire them wanting to protect Parker from certain Vampires. However, some who romance Cas find them to be annoying, especially since Gabe spends a good amount of time in the early chapters trying to keep Parker away from them. Some also dislike Gabe for their initial Fantastic Racism towards Vampires despite being one and having Vampire friends who help them. Them getting more focus and screen time in Book 2 has only made them more divisive, with some fans who only romance Cas voicing that any romantic interactions between Parker and Gabe come off as forced.
    • Cas is liked by their fans for being a Jerk with a Heart of Gold with Hidden Depths that does care about Parker and their mentee Seth. Others feel they try to hard to come off as a rebel, and others really don't like that Cas murdered someone in the very first chapter and feels no remorse for it.
  • Broken Base:
    • Pixelberry's decision to uncancel the series and give it a second book after previously declaring it to be a standalone has split the fanbase. One group is delighted at the book getting a sequel and even have hopes for other cancelled series getting more books after this decision. Another group is less enthusiastic, due to them considering the book not bad, per se, but not great enough to warrant Pixelberry doing something they've never done before with any other series (including ones that many felt were more deserving, like It Lives, Hero, and The Elementalists).
    • People are split on who's the better love interest for Parker between Gabe and Cas, and some really want the three of them to have a threesome.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal:
    • Most players thought it was very obvious that Gabe is a vampire.
    • Likewise, it was pretty obvious (and expected) that Parker had been turned into a vampire.
  • Creator's Pet: Gabe has become this in Book 2. Within the first six chapters, there have been two occasions for Parker to make-out with them with it being implied that they could've become more intimate if someone didn't walk in on them, with them possibly becoming intimate in Chapter 7. Meanwhile, Cas continuously storms off whenever they get mad, making it feel as though the writers are partially side-lining them to push players closer to Gabe. Even Cas' 30-diamond scene in Chapter 8 ends up being ruined by Gabe walking in on them and Parker at the worst time.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Some players have nicknamed this series "My Two First Loves, Vampire Edition" due to the story being set in High School and featuring a Love Triangle.
    • After Gabe is revealed to be a vampire in Chapter 5, he/she and Cas have come to be nicknamed "Vampire Mason" and "Vampire Noah" due to their personalities being similar to those of Mason and Noah, respectively.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Fans have noted that Book 2 is repeating a lot of the old beats from Book 1 (aside from Parker being a vampire); the rivalry between Gabe and Cas (despite them seemingly coming to respect each other at the end of Book 1), Lewyn and Astoria having it out for the main trio, even after Parker saved them from the Creator, the Love Triangle taking up a lot of screentime regardless of Parker's decision regarding Gabe and Cas, Parker's mother still treating them like a little kid, complete with them having to infiltrate the hospital where their mother works in order to prevent her from finding out the truth, Parker having to face the council for revealing the existence of vampires to humans in Chapter 9, and a traitor in the trio's ranks.
  • Rooting for the Empire: A fair amount of players are rooting for the Vampire Hunters in Book 2, and want them to either destroy the Covens or cause enough damage that the Clements and Venandis are forced to become one singular Coven. This is due to Lewyn, Astoria, and the Elders constantly blaming Parker and punishing them for everything that goes wrong, even when it isn't entirely their fault.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Pixelberry reversing their decision on the book being a standalone and announcing a Book 2 was something that absolutely throttled fans.
    • Book 2's general release premiere will see 4 chapters unlocked at once. Usually, 2 chapters are released at once only during first book premieres, while sequel premieres only see the first chapter released.
  • Slow-Paced Beginning: In comparison to Book 1, Book 2 has considerably slower pacing within the first five chapters. By this point in Book 1, players had a glimpse of the Big Bad, and there were a handful of plot twists such as Parker finding out that Vampires exist, Gabe and Cas being a couple of these said Vampires, and the trio fighting a group of rogue Vampires. The first few chapters of Book 2 have largely focused on Parker adjusting to no longer being human, with the vague implication that a group of Vampire Hunters are the big bads for this book.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Libby in Book 2. The scenes of her getting upset that Parker doesn't hang out with their human friends are meant to be sad and show that Parker's new life as a Vampire is having an impact on their human relationships. Instead, since Parker and Libby are never shown to be close friends and only had a few scenes together in Book 1, Libby comes off as irrationally clingy and upset that someone she doesn't know that well isn't hanging out with her.
    • Parker's mother Terri is this as well. Across the two books she has repeatedly overstepped her bounds as a medical examiner, something that has cost her at least one job in the past and is the whole reason she and Parker had to move to Crimson Beech. She never hears out Parker's concerns on why what she is doing is dangerous, especially since Parker knows the Vampires are willing to kill to protect their secrets, making her come off as Too Dumb to Live. She constantly treats Parker like a little kid on top of everything else, and always becomes angry and defensive when Parker brings up she's overstepping.
