- Jerkass Woobie: Alan in the final episode of Season 2, although heavily debatable. He's still a complete idiot, but nearly everyone is making offhand remarks about his book being destroyed, he's told he hasn't bounced back at all, and he's seemingly starting to have another breakdown. Even the funny anecdote regarding Peter Purves at the end of Season 2 feels like him clinging to the last traces of his own self-worth.

- ... Monkey Tennis? (Crops up regularly to this day on the chatboards of the Guardian, especially when horrible television is being discussed.)
- Second Season Downfall: The second season went overboard on the sitcommy elements, particularly Alan's Ukrainian girlfriend Sonja, and whilst the first season could have you feeling sorry for Alan, the second made him wholly self-centered and unlikeable. The travel tavern in the first series was a much better setting than the caravan, because it allowed Alan to interact with more characters. The second series is certainly watchable, just a step down.
- The Woobie: Lynn, especially in Season 2.
