YMMV / I Wani Hug that Gator!

  • Awesome Art: The game's visuals exceed the team's previous game in quality and expressiveness, and it has several hand-animated sequences.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content:
    • The original personality profiles of the main cast from when the game was a Snoot Game mod are still available to read, and some prefer the original concepts of each character to the ones from the final game.
    • Some fans prefer Lunara to be a trans woman as originally designed, as opposed to cis as she is in the final game.
  • Fandom-Specific Plot:
    • A tragic one is a specific plot following the events of Ending 1, where Olivia survives but is rendered mentally deficient, and is only able to remember small pieces of her romance with Inco but forgets what he did to her.
    • Due to their shared universe, crossover stories with the characters of Snoot Game are fairly common. A rarer form of this exists of putting the Wani characters in the setting of Goodbye Volcano High.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: One complaint about the demo is that its story feels too much like a retread of Snoot Game: a lonely Featureless Protagonist human joins a school full of anthropomorphic dinosaurs and accidentally gets swept up in the lives of a group of teenage dinosaurs. The parallels became further entrenched with the game's release, showing not only it shares the same narrative structure through its choices (including having the same amount of endings), but also requires a specific choice to be made in order to unlock the Golden Ending regardless of what score the player had earned, exactly the same trick Snoot Game pulled.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Just a week away!Explanation
      • Became an Ascended Meme when Cavemanon announced the game on February 7th, 2024 to be released on the 14th, exactly one week away.
    • Olivia's resemblance to an alligator has lead fans to edit her into existing meme images of gators.

    • Femboy Ben.Explanation
  • Signature Scene: The animated scenes stand out:
    • Mia chasing Inco and Olivia in episode 10.
    • Iadakan destroying Olivia's old painting in episode 11.
    • From the Golden Ending path, Olivia using her tail to stand herself up and dance with Inco at the winter formal.
  • Tear Jerker: The news being broken of Iadakan's passing. The scene is built-up with tension and a sense of unease, with every student being seemingly called out of the blue to the principal's office, including Olivia before Inco a little later. Classes are noticeably shorter and lackluster, teachers seem almost lifeless, and what awaits Inco in the office is Mr. Ferris himself. He then reveals that Iadakan not only had a terminal illness and had been admitted to hospital over the weekend due to complications, but he immediately passed away the following morning. Not only does the cruel reality hit that no one truly got to say goodbye to him, but he was the only teacher Olivia ever truly cared about and trusted, leaving her more alone than ever before.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Many of the secondary or side characters have this issue due to the majority of the story focusing on Inco and Oivia. Lunara and Kiara suffer the worst from this; the reason they hang out with Mia is never revealed, and they only appear in two early episodes before disappearing from the story.
  • Viewer Species Confusion: Olivia is a baronyx, but you wouldn't know that due to her green scales and flat snout. The game's title and story lean on this and lampshade it.
