YMMV / I Made A Comic About Internet Explorer

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Google Chrome, with a touch of Reality Subtext and the console comics, can afford to look like a villain who had a Freudian Excuse instead of someone who's born power hungry. She was a remorseless murderer and is obsessed on staying on top of being used by the Users. Her creator Google, however, has only a few successful products, Chrome being one of them, and those who failed or didn't meet with their expectation were quickly discarded and forgotten. One of Google's products, Stadia (technically Chrome's sister), ended up that way and she turned out miserable in the video game console version of the Dark Web. Microsoft, despite leaving Internet Explorer to rot, actually bothered to save her from death by allowing her to turn into Microsoft Edge, and her video game console sister, Xbox, actually still fared quite well. One can say that Chrome's hatred and jealousy against Internet Explorer was because she's jealous that Internet Explorer grew in a stabler environment whereas her own family pushed her into perfectionism with the price of failure being death.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Chrome's antagonism towards Internet Explorer is a lot funnier after reading Merryweathery and Princess Hinghoi's Console Waifu comics, where fellow Google spinoff Stadia is pretty much a perfect fusion of the two: just as haughty as Chrome, but has all of Internet Explorer's problems.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Netscape Navigator. Like Internet Explorer, she was once a popular browser who was beloved by many, but then ended up finding herself send to the Dark Web after Internet Explorer rose in popularity. As a direct result of this, she loathed Internet Explorer for basically killing her, but warmed up to her again after she tried to save them both from the Deep Web. When the two of them finally manage to escape, she thanks Explorer for letting her see her beloved internet again for one last time, before finally dying with a tearful smile one her face.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Immediately became a meme after it was published, which makes sense, because it touches upon several memetic topics itself like the poor quality of the actual Internet Explorer search engine and the unpopularity of EU Article 13.
    • Additionally, the fact that Internet Explorer/Edge is portrayed as a nice heroic girl while Google Chrome is portrayed as an evil bitch meant to be hated made some fans joke that Merryweatherey is secretly an agent of Microsoft to boost up Internet Explorer/Edge's popularity while dropping down Chrome's. "Uninstalling Chrome"/"Installing Edge" is a pretty common phrase thrown when Chrome does something evil or Internet Explorer/Edge does something wholesome.
    • Attempting to lighten Chrome's brutality often takes form in portraying her as nothing more than a gluttonous girl that happens to hoard and eat a lot of meals/RAMs, not sharing with other hungry browsers.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Google Chrome torturing and nearly murdering Bing for her RAM. She does all this without a lick of remorse.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Article 13 only appeared once, and he's not exactly a personification of something positive (he's the personification of the articles that would severely limit expression of freedom in the internet, like SOPA or COPPA, etc). And yet, he's one of the few people that could make Google Chrome look positively scared, making his sole appearance incredibly cathartic.
  • Shocking Moments: The Final Battle between Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, beginning in Episode 44.
  • The Woobie:
    • Internet Explorer, until she transforms into Microsoft Edge.
    • Bing, a search engine almost nobody likes or uses. She frequently gets insulted by the users, to the point where she breaks down crying, and Internet Explorer is the only browser who still uses her. To make things even worse, episode 16 has her brutally attacked and almost killed by Google Chrome.
