YMMV / HunieCam Studio

  • Broken Base: The change in art style has been pretty controversial. Some like the cute aspect of the new designs and love the fact that it's a parody of Facebook games. Others prefer the Animesque designs for being more detailed, realistic and attractive. The official poll for the art style is skewed towards the latter.
  • Canon Discontinuity: It was confirmed that, while the new characters that are introduced in Huniecam are canonical, the game's storyline itself is not.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The STD mechanic comes complete with an achievement for getting all of them, and even has AIDS, leaving a girl too depressed to work.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Right out of the gate, Lillian was a fan-favorite for being attractive and hilariously mean (note that bitchy or strange characters were also the favorites of the last game). It helps that her character bio is easily one of the most hilarious.
  • Fanon: Nikki is listed as "Lesbian" in the trailer. While this refers to what style of porn you're making her do, people have run with the idea of Nikki coming out as a lesbian after the events of HuniePop, though only if played as a male character (the game has the option to play as either a male or female).
    • That being said the few times the female protagonist is talked about, she's said to have helped with or had influenced Nikki's sexuality change.
    • The theory that Zoey's android girl was just a phase and the zen and calm girl she is in HuniePop 2 was more closer to her real personality is also popular.
  • Fanon Discontinuity: While this game does seem to indicate that the player is canonically male. This is often handwaved as female gamers have played the game as a madame and in 2, you can tell Lola about it even if you're female.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the major complaints of the game, with many people completing the game in under 2 hours. The game encourages multiple playthroughs to get everything.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Notably what the developer is trying to avoid – the new art style is meant to keep the sequel from being too much like the main game.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: Minor example. The fall of Audrey completely dwarfs discussion of the other characters in the game.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Those who dislike Nikki tend to like her a lot more in this game, where she retains her shyness and insecurities, but loses the rudeness.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Some players refuse to use the Sleazy Motel because of the chance of their girls catching STDs. This is especially bad if a girl catches AIDS, since she becomes completely useless unless frequently hopped up on steroids. It's to the point where some have been asking the dev to make the condom item have unlimited uses. On the other hand, if you're just an advertisement or two away from your trophy goal on the last day, and it's too close to midnight to complete another studio cycle, then the Godzilla Threshold is crossed and you might as well try to get as much money as you can by spamming the motel with all your girls until everyone gets an STD. This will cripple any potential for fooling around past day 21, but if you only care about your 21 day high score it's worth it.
  • Sequelitis: The consensus is that the game is very shallow in comparison to Huniepop, being less strategic and having less character depth than the last game.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: There's no real plot to speak of, but there was a lot of potential to give each character a more in-depth story, or have Jessie and Tiffany confront each other over their issues.
