  • Awesome Moments: Buffy is fighting for her life in an arena against an opponent she can't hope to beat… and then she's suddenly called as the Slayer. She kills her opponent, then Mr. Trick.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Buffy noticing that Spike has brought himself a black bath robe. 'Because heaven forbid the scary vampire should wear any other colour.'
    • Buffy spends the first few chapters of the story noticing Spike's good looks and getting horny, much to her frustration.
    • While Spike collapsing in despair at hearing that Buffy's in hospital isn't funny, Wesley having no idea how to deal with him is.
Oh, wonderful, now he was the invincible vampire's therapist.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Most of the story is this, with Spike and Buffy building a life together ready for when the twins are born.
    • A standout moment is after Buffy's first doctor's appointment, where they're told she'll be having twin girls. Spike is quiet and still, and Buffy wonders if he's still willing to be part of her life. Then Spike pulls her into his lap and vows to take care of them for as long as he lives.
    • Then there's Buffy and Spike's reunion after their temporary break-up.
    • The birth of the twins.
  • Iron Woobie: Buffy goes through a lot of pain both during the story and before it starts, but she manages to stay strong throughout.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Buffy is kidnapped off the streets of Seattle, held hostage while the vampire who kidnapped her makes threats against her and her unborn children, and then thrown into an arena against an opponent she has no hope of beating. What's worse, is that the arena fight is televised as a public execution, meaning that the rest of the gang can only watch helplessly.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The story begins with a heartbroken Spike not knowing what to do with himself after Drusilla's death. He latches onto Buffy and her unborn children because he's desperately lonely and needs someone to look after. When telling her this he breaks down in tears, which helps Buffy accept him.
    • Realizing that Spike is killing people to feed, Buffy believes that he won't be happy if she asks him to change, so she instead asks him to leave. As he does, he ends up saying some nasty stuff to her that he doesn't mean and later comes to deeply regret. What follows is hard to read; Buffy doesn't eat or drink properly and ends up collapsing from dehydration, while Spike is distraught and can barely function without her until he decides to stop killing. When he returns and finds out that Buffy is in hospital, he bursts into tears.
