- Heartwarming Moments: Charlie and Rex's interactions, especially outside of work, do a good job of showing that the two aren't just partners or owner and pet, but best friends.
- Like You Would Really Do It: No matter how many times Hudson and Rex are put in grave danger, the audience will never believe that these characters will ever be killed off, especially when it comes to Rex.
- Narm: The slow-motion used for some of Rex's action scenes can come off as a bit overdone.
- Tearjerker: In season 2's "Over Ice", Charlie and Sarah are trapped in a walk-in freezer with Rex being helpless to free them. While Rex does manage to get help, Charlie and Sarah nearly freeze to death.
