YMMV / Horton Hatches the Egg

Go To

  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Horton decides to adopt Morton as his own son at the end and be a wonderful father to him. The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss shows that he really lived up to that promise, as many episodes show him teaching Morton welcome life lessons and trying to make him happy.
  • Heartwarming Moments: The ending:
"And it should be, it should be, it should be like that
Because Horton was faithful. He sat and he sat.
He meant what he said and he said what he meant...
And they sent him home, happy one hundred percent."
  • Moral Event Horizon: Mayzie takes her ingratitude up to eleven when she lies that Horton stole the egg. In reality, Mayzie specifically asked Horton to take care of the egg.
  • The Woobie: Horton. Throughout the whole book, he gets rained on, frozen, mocked by other animals, abducted, nearly killed, seasick, & sold to the circus for the sake of staying on that egg. When Mayzie comes back (very late to the call), rather than showing any gratitude, she accuses him of stealing it and tells him to get lost. In the animated version, this leaves the poor guy in tears. Fortunately, karma makes sure he gets something for all his work.
