YMMV / Honky Tonk Man

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: A WrestleCrap article muses that Honky was meant to be a heel from the beginning, and gives evidence towards this point.
  • Accidental Innuendo: While describing Dusty Rhodes’ stiffness in their match on Summerslam 89, Honky dropped this phrase - “Everytime he touched me, he hurt me!”
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: One of the biggest from the late 80's WWF. Aside from his long Intercontinental Championship reign, his silly gimmick and relatively quiet post-WWF career would make him easy to dismiss, but he is nonetheless held up as one of the company's underrated great workers and characters.
  • Funny Moments:
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Billy Gunn broke off of him in order to form The New Age Outlaws and Rick Rude was his most hated foe on IWCCW. Now, him and D-Generation X, who the New Age Outlaws are a part of and Rude managed are announced as inductees of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
  • Ho Yay: Nothing he said or did himself, but, during his IC Title defense against Hillbilly Jim on the November 12 (taped October 9), 1987, WWF Prime Time Wrestling, commentator "The Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty said, "If I was a girl, I might go for him."
