YMMV / Hime-chan's Ribbon

  • Escapist Character: What's not to love about Himeko Nonohara? Though she starts the series with Boyish Short Hair and her go-to outfit is a clunky pair of overalls, she still leads a pretty active life. She's a friendly, compassionate, and cheerful girl who can go toe-to-toe with boys in sports, she has a close friend circle, and a quirky loving family, including an older sister she looks up to and even envies. Once Erika entrusts Himeko with the ribbon, she's able to use a variety of magical abilities to resolve conflicts of not just her own, provide occasionally support for her family and friends, and even a few feats of justice that eventually let her win the heart of the school's popular and rebellious Chick Magnet. Himeko proved to be so relatable and well-liked that she frequently landed on Animage's monthly best anime characters list, even over a year and a half after her series had ended, and later landed the 87th spot in the 100 best characters in a February 1999 issue, well over six years later.
  • Heartwarming Moments: At the end of the final episode of the original televised run, there's a short closing scene where, with the last part of "Kimi wa Kimi da yo" ("You're You") being played in the background, Himeko and Pokota, along with a confused Daichi, thank the viewers for watching. Himeko believes they'll meet again, while Pokota says that he'll never forget the viewers who tuned in and says that they'll always be friends. This short scene was never included in any home releases.
