YMMV / HeroQuest

  • Broken Base: The upcoming revival. While many are happy that the game is coming back at all, the crowdfunding campaign has been a source of contention. The biggest source of complaints being that Europeans can't back the campaign despite the game originating from the UK to begin with. Some suspect there may still be some legal issues surrounding this. This was eventually addressed, however, though it's also worth noting that the new boards are based on the US rules everywhere now.
    • While nearly everyone understands that the change had to happen, whether renaming Chaos spells, Chaos Warriors and the Chaos Sorcerer into Dread magic, Dread Warriors and the Dread Sorcerer was a good move is up for debate. Even moreso, whether the Abominations are a good replacement for the Fimirs is also contested.
  • Epileptic Trees: Quite a few fans think the Barbarian is actually a young Sigmar before he became the God-Emperor who founded the Empire.
  • Game-Breaker: The crossbow allows a hero to attack any monster in their line of sight as long as the monster not next to the hero, which isn't that much of a limitation due to the fact that any hero wielding a crossbow will likely shoot down a monster before they can attack the hero. It is a common house rule to give the crossbow limited ammo to restrict its use.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The best thing about HeroQuest is...note
    • The extremely hammy acting from the 1989 UK commercial. "Brode Sode!"
