YMMV / Helluva Boss S1E7 "OZZIE'S"

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop:
    • Considering that the problems of the episode started because Moxxie played a song that didn't fit the club's mood, there's the message of making sure to do your research on places or events you want to go before you do, so that you don't do the wrong thing and cause problems.
    • Likewise, Blitzo is specifically told by Moxxie not to tag along to his and Millie's anniversary celebration at OZZIE'S. Blitzo stalks them anyway, and is shocked to learn at the door that OZZIE'S requires couples. He solves this by inviting Stolas, only to be horrified to learn once inside that people he and Stolas are associated with and on bad terms with work there... who humiliate Blitzo and Stolas when they see them. An unintentional message here is, to do your research on a new place to before you arrive, especially if you're tagging along to an event you weren't invited to.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • The source of Stolas's sudden attitude adjustment, respectfully calling Blitzo by his name instead of "Blitzy" and generally showing an interest in Blitzo's well-being beyond sex. So has Stolas always loved Blitzo this sincerely and simply failed to show it, or has his deteriorating home life played some kind of a part? Has he indeed been viewing Blitzo as a glorified boy toy until now? Someone he's infatuated with, but not deeply in love with? Some rolling, evolving combination thereof?
    • Was the crowd heckling Moxxie's song because they found it too sappy? Because they thought it was unfitting for the venue? Or were they jealous of Moxxie and Millie's loving, stable relationship?
    • When they're mocking Moxxie's song, Fizz's tone changes a couple times to be less mocking, notably when he turns to face Asmodeus. Coincidence, or—based on how touchy he is with Asmodeus—was he sneaking in a genuine "I love you" to his demon king in a way that gives him Plausible Deniability?
    • Did Ozzie kick Moxxie and Millie out for their Sickeningly Sweethearts behavior or because Millie beat Fizz, who Ozzie is implied to be in a romantic relationship with, into unconsciousness? Or both?
    • The look on Blitzo's face after Stolas hides in shame behind the menu. Was he hurt that Stolas didn't defend him, and it only further solidified his belief that he was just a glorified toy boy? Or was he now realizing how much Stolas actually put at risk because of being his male mistress, and his callous call-out was a way to get Stolas disillusioned of him to save what's left of the owl's reputation?
    • While very brief, Stolas is seen trying to escape the spotlight when Asmodeus begins to heckle him. Is he just trying to avoid the attention being drawn to him or is he actually bailing on Blitzo? Alternatively, is he afraid that his intervention would draw more attention and make Blitzo's situation even worse?
    • Was Moxxie really oblivious to the whole "no true love in the house of Asmodeus" rule, or was he aware of it but wanted to proclaim his love for Mille there anyway as further testament to their relationship?
      • If Moxxie was aware, were Fizz and Ozzie in on the whole thing? Moxxie didn't seem very upset, and said he'd been planning the event for a long time. The club certainly got some mileage out of roasting Moxxie for the entertainment of their guests. Whether or not they meant for Millie to deck Fizz is anyone's guess.
    • Who, exactly, were the audience applauding when Moxxie finished his song? Was it a sign they did appreciate his lovey-dovey sentiments to his wife, or were they actually applauding Asmodeus' portion, given what an amazing spectacle it was (and that applauding right after Millie's interruption would have been in appropriate)? Or were they applauding the M&M kiss, thinking it might get a little steamier right there onstage? Or were they applauding M&M for having the guts to go against Ozzie? Did they think it was All Part of the Show?
    • Was Ozzie insulting Stolas when mentioning how he gave up his seemingly cushy life for a fling with Blitzo, or was he using him as a positive example to Moxxie and Millie as who they should emulate?
  • Alternative Joke Interpretation: When Blitzo says that Millie and Moxxie "make missionary look relatively exciting." Is he joining in on roasting Moxxie by implying he and Millie have a boring sex life? Or is he trying to defend Moxxie by saying his and Millie's sexual prowess are so invigorating that they make even basic sexual intercourse seem larger than life?
  • Awesome Music: "The House of Asmodeus." An excellent song (as usual) that sets the mood and tells just what kind of establishment Asmodeus runs as well as providing substantial plot advancement and character development.
  • Catharsis Factor: Two in one. First, Blitzo getting dressed down as the end result of taking his habit stalking M&M too far. Second, Blitzo calling out Stolas in the clearest way possible way that he can't have it both ways and have a romantic relationship with Blitzo when he has been treating him as a sex toy all season and coerced him into a Sex for Services deal to keep his business running.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: As usual with this series. Stolas eating Comfort Food (off-brand Lucky Charms) alone in his big empty house? Depressing. Stolas giving a melodramatic "SIGH!" as he does so, and an exaggerated frown as he sits down to his favorite Soap Within a Show? Utterly hilarious!
  • He Really Can Act: Between "OZZIE'S" and "Truth Seekers", Brandon Rogers has quickly shown his chops as a voice actor, especially as both episodes amp up the drama further showing off the emotional range he can do with Blitzo. This episode especially shows how he can wrench the viewer's heart out and really make them care about Blitzo as a Jerkass Woobie.
  • Fridge Logic: The bouncer who stopped Blitzo from coming into the club after Moxxie and Millie says that OZZIE'S is for "couples only", but we can see Stolas' imp butler with five other people in one table and what it's implied to be a threesome in a voyeuristic agreement, the last one not being too far away from what Blitzo was looking to do spying on the M&M. Had the bouncer said that Moxxie and Millie's reservation was for a couple-only, Blitzo's rejection would've made more sense.
  • I Knew It!: Quite a few notable parts of the episode had been figured out long before the premiere by sharp-eyed viewers when the Season 1 trailer first came out.
    • The Stolas-focused episode would be in the Lust Ring. It would focus on his relationship with Blitzo.
    • Verosika would make a second appearance based on the heels shown.
    • Some even guessed that Asmodeus would show up since this episode supposedly takes place in the Lust Ring due to his status as the demon of lust.
