YMMV / Hedon

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Deliberate on the part of HedonDev, who leans heavily on sex appeal and Rule 34 to build notoriety for Hedon. The first thing most people know about Hedon, besides it being a modern Doom clone, is that it stars buff orc girls.
  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Cerberi are fast and run in an erratic zig-zagging pattern that makes them difficult to hit, and if they get close their melee attack has such a short refresh time that a single dog can chew through most of your health in a few seconds.
    • Golems are small, thin, incredibly agile, have featureless black bodies, and are almost silent save for their footsteps and flechette attacks (during which they leap about and become even harder to hit). Its easy to lose track of them in a firefight, and they're nearly invisible in dark areas like Meat Moss hives. Fortunately, a pair of fixer goggles will highlight them like any other enemy.
  • Even Better Sequel: The original Hedon is held to be a competently-made and characterful GZDoom retro shooter, and especially impressive for having been made by a single person. Hedon: Bloodrite is twice the length of the original, is more challenging and has bigger battles, boasts a pseudo-RPG level structure with multiple outcomes for various story beats, and has a greater emphasis on story, characters and worldbuilding; all while still being made by a single person.
  • Goddamn Bats:
    • Iron Maidens are low-level Shield Bearing Mooks that reflect physical attacks from the front (including explosive primary-fire Crushbow bolts, alarmingly), forcing you to either use the Fragfire's alt-fire or waste ammo for more powerful guns (namely the crylance, potion launcher and the crushbow's alt-fire). Bloodrite likes to deploy dense swarms of Iron Maidens to meatshield for tougher monsters during big battles, since they can also block the Paingun.
    • Genius from Bloodrite are winged gargoyle imps. They're among the most fragile enemies in the game, but they're lightning fast and love to flutter around you in almost random patterns while taking potshots with claws and lightning bolts.
