YMMV / Heaven's Light

Go To

  • Crossover Ship: Quasimodo and Rapunzel, and also Flynn Rider and Esmeralda. Subverted with Frollo and Gothel, because he's trying to subject her to Scarpia Ultimatum, and he's also suffering from the same hypocritical condemnation of his own lust that he had for Esmeralda in canon.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Mother Gothel ultimately comes to love Rapunzel for herself instead of just her hair and sacrifices herself to save Rapunzel from Frollo. For a reminder that Gothel is a "Draco", read the Harsher in Hindsight entry. That said, she's a much more sympathetic character than Frollo.
  • Funny Moments: Clopin is the one who tells Flynn "[His] dream stinks, [he] was talking about [Rapunzel]".
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • It might be hard to see this version of Gothel coming to truly love Rapunzel and regret kidnapping her, when it's revealed in the series that she abandoned her biological daughter (Cassandra!) for Rapunzel, whom she never had any real love for either.
    • In Seven Days in Corona, Rapunzel blames herself for what happened to her uncle Agnarr and aunt Iduna because they were sailing to see her after hearing her return. Her cousin Elsa shares the blame when she and Anna learned they were searching for a way to help Elsa control her powers.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Maximus's rivalry with Frollo's horse is similar to his rivalry with Axel in Tangled: The Series.
    • At the end of the story, the King chose Eugene as the new Captain of the Guard after Phoebus has been promoted as the new Minister of Justice following Frollo's death. In an episode of Tangled: The Series, Eugene decides to become a royal guard. In "Flynnposter", the Captain of the Guard decides to step down and appoint Eugene as his successor.
  • Ho Yay: During Esmeralda's dance, instead of sitting on Frollo's lap like in the canon film, she sat on the Queen's and then kissed her at the tip of her nose. The crowd hollers at the display and the king smiles at her wife's blushing. And this was after the queen defended her from Frollo's disgusted remark. In the sequel Seven Days in Corona, Esmeralda puts her hands on the Queen's and had her face close to hers, making the Queen nervous and riling the crowd, but Esmeralda teases "not this year".
  • Nightmare Fuel: Frollo. Just... Frollo. Already one of Disney's darkest villains, Heaven's Light doesn't treat him any better. Apart from murdering Quasimodo's mother and basically enslaving and abusing the boy for years, and planning on purging Corona of those he considers sinful, here, he plans on overthrowing his own superiors, King Henri and Queen Susanne themselves and enslaving their daughter so he can use her magic hair to gain immortality and be the tyrant of Corona forever.
  • The Woobie: Quasimodo and Rapunzel, as per canon. Separated from their parents at an early age, brought up in isolation from the world, and left with deep-rooted psychological problems.
    • Also, King Henri and Queen Susanne.
