• Harsher in Hindsight: The tension of Francis in his private moments with Eleanor are hard to listen to, this is only worse as revealed in Coppola's biography The Path to Paradise. In the commentary for Hearts of Darkness Eleanor and Francis describe that their relationship was different than other films, as Eleanor was more distant than supportive as she was being more objective with him in many moments focusing on being a documentarian more than a supportive wife. The biography has revealed that Eleanor would discover that Francis was having affairs with two women during the production of the film and the two privately were considering divorce to the point that they explained it to their children. However, Eleanor also would come to deduce that much of Francis erratic behavior (including his infidelity^note Those suffering from bipolar disorder in manic states will have poor impulse control and/or have periods of hypersexuality) were signs of undiagnosed bipolar disorder.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: By the same token though, given that newer footage of Eleanor and Francis shows that they overcame this rough patch and were still Happily Married.
