YMMV / Heart of Dragon

  • Narm: Action star Sammo Hung in a dramatic role as an intellectually disabled Manchild doesn't really sell it, huh?
  • So Bad, It's Good: You can do an action film with comedy or you can do a drama film with action pretty easily. This movie tries its best to juggle all three equally, and fails so magnificently hard that it manages to achieve this status without even breaking a sweat.
  • Tear Jerker: As silly and over-the-top this film is, there are some genuinely sad moments, like when Tat eventually loses his temper and slaps Dodo, the subsequent scene where Dodo wanders around in Hong Kong looking for a job after Tat snapped at him, and finally being taken advantage of by a douchebag diner owner who thinks its fun to manipulate the giant, autistic man like a toy.
  • Uncertain Audience: The movie isn't really clear if it wants to be a heartfelt drama, a slapstick comedy, or an asskicking martial arts film. It tries to be all three at once, but its ultimately too silly for a drama, too dramatic for a comedy, and action doesn't really drive the plot of the movie if it's aiming to be an action film.
  • The Woobie: Tat, who had to give up his dreams and eventually his status as a free man just because of his brother.
