YMMV / Head of the Class

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The show's use of underage characters to reference Woody Allen didn't age well, including having Simone refer to him as "sexy" and dedicating an entire high school prom to him.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One student sitting at one desktop computer? That would be considered quaint as of The New '10s and The New '20s, when in many places it's commonplace for every student to be issued their own laptop. Just having a single PC in a classroom would be quaint even later in The '90s as the Internet started to establish its foothold.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Most of the season 4 and 5 students, as well as Mr. MacGregor.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Dan Schneider as Dennis Blunden.
    • Dan Frischman (Arvid Engen) is also best known for playing Chris Potter on Kenan & Kel.
    • Brian Robbins (Eric Mardian) is also best known as co-creator and co-executive producer of All That and Cousin Skeeter, and as of 2023, the head of Paramount.
    • Michael DeLorenzo (Alex Torres) is also best known for playing Det. Eddie Torres on New York Undercover.
    • Andrew Guerdat and Steve Kreinberg wrote eight episodes. Both are best known for creating Herman's Head.
    • Gary Gilbert wrote four episodes. Gilbert is best known for co-creating Sister, Sister.
    • Valri Bromfield wrote two episodes and served as creative consultant. Bromfield is best known for voicing Nurse Molly on Camp Candy.
    • Danny Smith also wrote two episodes. Smith is best known for voicing various incedental characters on Family Guy.
    • Robert Griffard and Howard Adler wrote an episode. Both are best known as creators and executive producers of Two of a Kind.
    • Al Jean and Mike Reiss also wrote an episode. Both are best known as creators and executive producers of Teen Angel and The Critic.
    • Mark Fink also wrote an episode. Fink is best known as co-creator and executive producer of Hang Time.
    • Brad Pitt guest stars in a third-season episode as a guy Maria is dating and wants to impress.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Dr. Samuels, in "Most Likely to be Forgotten", isn't wrong to exclude Eric's name from the academic team's trophy. The class protests, complete with pranks against Dr. Samuels, but he is correct when he points out that Eric never liked the academic team and only acted as an alternate on occasion. Eric always acted like he was too good for the team, even mocking his classmates, and he only agreed to be an alternate when it was convenient for him or the team, such as when he joined simply because he wanted a trip to Russia (he wanted to visit his family, it had nothing to do with helping the team).
  • Values Dissonance: Charlie's assumption in "Love at First Byte" that only one of his female students could have been responsible for writing him a love letter. He never once considers any of the boys.
