  • Funny Moments: Mr. Hyde, Fu Manchu, The Phantom of the Opera and Frankenstein's Monster come out of their books, roar at the audience... and then perform some light-hearted dances together.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The short features a number of crude ethnic caricatures, including a yellow-skinned, monstrous Fu Manchu, a big-lipped Uncle Tom, and versions of Cab Calloway and Bojangles.
    • The short was censored for several decades, not because of the above-mentioned caricatures, but because the opening and closing featured a town crier character modeled after critic Alexander Wolcott, and Wolcott apparently disliked the parody and, after his death, his estate convinced Warner Brothers to remove the character. It's hard to imagine a major studio giving one critic so much indulgence nowadays.
