YMMV / Haunted Hotel

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: In Phoenix, the Mystery Trackers contact the player by fax machine... in 1979, which seems like a gaffe. But this is actually entirely possible, because fax machines had been in use for over ten years at that point.
  • Complete Monster: In Beyond the Page, the Creature is an otherworldly being who controls other monsters from another dimension called "The Other Side". Contacting a desperate writer, Michael Carpenter, the Creature offered him a deal, whereby it will give him numerous sources for inspiration to write successful horror novels in exchange for Carpenter allowing it to use his Prime Hotel as its personal access point to Earth. Keeping Carpenter prisoner in his hotel, the Creature has its monsters hunt down and turn innocent people into feral, withered skeleton creatures called "Wendigos", which it keeps in a state of eternal suffering, using them as its "puppets" and "attack dogs", while also letting the creatures from "The Other Side" kill anyone they see.
  • Nightmare Fuel: As might be expected from a series with this name. The Axiom Butcher and The Evil Inside are probably the two worst examples.
    • Axiom is Bloodier and Gorier than the rest of the series, with the victims being murdered as the game progresses in horrifyingly brutal ways.
    • Evil takes place at what was once the mansion of a happy family who were tragically murdered, and in the years following the murder, dozens of other people who went into the building disappeared and were never seen again. James, while searching for his missing cousin, finds himself locked in a room filled with what are almost certainly the skeletons of those who vanished decades earlier.
  • Tear Jerker: Don't think too much about the fates suffered by some of the ghosts in these games. And definitely don't think even more about the loved ones who were left to grieve them - or in some cases, to wonder what happened to them because they never came home.
