YMMV / Hardcore History

Go To

  • Archive Binge: Although the series has less than 100 episodes, the length of the average of the episode makes it very easy to do this with.
  • Archive Panic: The show has only around a little under 70 episodes (at the time of this writing) but it becomes this when you realize many of those episodes' running times (in particular the later ones) range from 2 1/2 to 5 hours.
  • Awesome Art: Even some of Carlin's detractor's admit the cover art for his podcast episodes are usually quite impressive.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Mike Duncan's of The History of Rome and Revolutions podcasts. Duncan even appeared on one of Carlin's shows for an interview to promote one of his books.
  • Gateway Series: Many have said Carlin's podcast has been an entry point for them of getting more into history or becoming a podcaster themselves.
  • Growing the Beard: The Punic Nightmares trio of episodes is where many consider the podcast to have hit its stride, with the multi-episodic focus on one topic of history. Many of the episodes prior being Carlin musing for 40 minutes to an hour on a particular historical topic and having to abridge much of it to make his point.
  • More Popular Spin Off: Originally it started out as a side series spinoff of Carlin's political commentary show, Common Sense, but grew so much in popularity he's put recording episodes of Common Sense on hold to give him more time to produce Hardcore History.
