- Complete Monster: The Great Witch of the Woods is a ambitious sorceress who arrived in America with the Pilgrims. To maintain her immortality, she lured children into her woods to eat their souls, leaving them as empty shells. The Great Witch eventually has her followers found a private school, where she has the most promising students bring her souls in exchange for her ensuring their place in the halls of power. When Ella and Jonah, two siblings whose parents the Witch killed, show up, the Witch has her cult corrupt Jonah while killing anybody who helps Ella investigate them. She eventually tries to have Jonah kill Ella before revealing that she intends to use her disciples to Take Over the World.
- Ho Yay: Jonah and Landon have a bit of this going on; their fight early on ends with the latter pinning the former's wrists to the ground and looming over him, and during the climax, Jonah initially tries to convince Landon to leave the cult rather than fight him (especially noticeable since he doesn't even bother to do the same with his female Love Interest who's part of the cult).
- Retroactive Recognition: Yeah, that's Booboo Stewart (sometime between his role in the Twilight films and his becoming a Disney Channel regular) playing the male protagonist.
- Special Effects Failure: The effects used for spells are...less than convincing, to say the least.
