YMMV / HQ

  • Growing the Beard: Once the app removed the $20 minimum for cashing out winnings.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Out of all the non-Scott hosts, Matt Richards seems to be the most beloved for his love of rhyming catchphrases and overall energetic sense of humor, which probably helped him to become the regular host after Scott's departure, though Sharon Carpenter has her fans as well.
  • Fan Nickname: Matt Richards is often referred to as "Carlton" in the chat. He has noted this on several occasions and even referred to himself as "Quiz Carlton" on occasion.
  • Memetic Mutation: Several have become popular in the game's chat:
    • "Birds Nest Soup" is a common phrase, in reference to the most savage question of all time. Usually the word "Birds" is replaced by some noun pertaining to the question just asked.
    • Matt Richards's aforementioned Fan Nickname.
    • "Free Scott"/"Scott is in Jail": Became a frequent gag when Scott Rogowsky took a week off near the end of Summer 2018 and Matt Richards hosted the entire week. Still persisted long after Scott's return, with further gags such as "Bail for Scott".
    • "Rocy" is a frequent thing to say in the chat after an infamous misspelling of Rocky Balboa on HQ Words.
    • After a production error which led to the wrong question being asked first, "Nitrogen" is another frequent joke in the chat.
    • "Savage Question" when a question takes a good majority out of the game.
  • Moment of Awesome: Whenever someone wins at least $500.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Any host who isn't Scott Rogowsky will almost inevitably get rejected by fans the moment they pop up, to the point where "Free Scott" comments have become common in the chat for any game where he isn't hosting. Forgiven if the host has had prior game show experience, such as Ben Gleib, Jimmy Kimmel or Marc Summers.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: For those who manage to win the game, not being able to cash out your winnings until reaching at least $20 used to be one. Since getting to Q12 is hard for anyone to do, and lots of people win less than $20 in a single game, the only way to actually be paid your winnings in that scenario was to hope you would be lucky enough to win another game (not impossible, but rare for most players). Fortunately, the developers listened and now players can cash out any time regardless of how much money they won.
    • Likewise, the Top 3 on HQ Words, where the top three fastest finishers overall get paid more. This was a source of ire for many players, as some of top times are too fast to be done by human players. It wound up being eliminated in favor of everyone being paid equally, though the top three fastest players are still acknowledged at the end.
    • The switch to the "10 strikes" overall on HQ Words has also been a source of frustration. But also subverted and becomes a Game-Breaker for players with an Extra Life, as using one if you are eliminated gives you a full 10 strikes again.
