YMMV / Gustavus

Go To

  • Animation Age Ghetto: Since it's animated and zany, the shorts have been widely shown to children. A lot of them are inoffensive, but the series is categorized as adult animation for good reason: alcohol, smoking, nudity, sexual innuendo, and subjects and gags best understood by jaded grownups feature frequently.
  • Cult Classic: The shorts are fondly remembered by many people the world over who've ran into them on TV back in the '60s-'80s. In its native Hungary especially.
  • Quirky Work: Most of the shorts start out relatively normal and get zanier as they go, tackling and satirizing real life topics with increasingly absurd antics that knock on the door of postmodernism.
  • The Woobie: Though he often deserves his comeuppance, Gustav inadvertently comes across as this in quite a few episodes, particularly the early ones where he looked more "cute".
