YMMV / Guns, Gore & Cannoli

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: In 2, the Nazis have guided missiles. This was actually in the test phase by the Germans in World War 2, although it was a very bulky missile with a tripod-mounted, crew-served launcher.
  • Awesome Art: The game series' sprites and backgrounds are hand-drawn and they're pretty well-drawn at that. The fact that the artists who did this game series also made a good animated short film helps plenty.
  • Complete Monster: "Frankie the Fly" is a self-serving Mafioso who betrays Vinnie Cannoli, the mob enforcer sent to rescue him. Although the government stopped poisoning alcohol during prohibition because it turned people into zombies, Frankie pays the scientist to continue producing the poison. Zombifying nearly all of Thugtown as the "perfect diversion", Frankie kills mob boss Mr. Belluccio and attempts to steal his millions. In the sequel, Frankie, as the "Dark Don", sells the poison to the Nazis themselves — planning to eventually betray them as well — and tries to harvest Vinnie's blood so he'll have the only antidote to the zombie poison and will be able to rule the world.
  • Even Better Sequel: The sequel expands and improves on the original in almost every way, from improved gameplay to a much more interesting story involving the Nazis and World War II. The only problem is the short play time and a lack of multiplayer versus mode or survival mode.
  • Goddamn Bats: Or rather, goddamn rats in the sewer level of the first game. They're as quick as a runner zombie and able to jump out of the way of Vinnie's shots, and frequently attack in groups. The fact that there's an Elite Mook variant that spits acid to attack from a distance also doesn't help, and both kinds frequently show up as a mixed Swarm of Rats that can and will tear through poor Vinnie's health in a matter of seconds. As a case in point, when Hakos Baelz of hololive streamed a playthrough of the game, she had to face a gauntlet of these things shortly after beating the giant rat boss — and the hapless rat-girl took thirty minutes to reach the next checkpoint due to getting Vinny mauled to pieces at least a dozen times.
A commenter on the VOD: What a twist for Bae's greatest enemy in a game about gunning down hoards[sic] of zombies and mafia to be her own kind.
  • Moment of Awesome: Vinnie single-handedly carrying the Allies to victory on D-Day.
  • That One Boss: In the first game, Mickey the giant rat. The area where it shows up is full of toxic water and the rat has multiple attack moves, to say nothing of the constantly spawning smaller rats.
    • Additionally, the fight with Sonny. Flunky Boss + erratic movement + grenade spam + Short-Range Shotgun + Shield-Bearing Mook = constant deaths. Even on Easy, he is a pain-in-the-ass.
    • The Tiger Tank in the sequel has three phases (trial and error gameplay will cost you plenty of ammo). It's also very easy to get run down by the tank.
