YMMV / Green-Sky Trilogy

  • Adaptation Displacement: The video game is considered a minor Cult Classic among platform and adventure gamers, but the books are obscure and were out of print for almost 20 years. Many who remember the video game with great fondness have no idea there were books.
  • Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory: Played straight, with some justification and a huge amount of Foreshadowing. The people, especially the Kindar, are used to venerating sanctified leaders. Raamo protests the elevation of his sister to holy child and vehemently denies that he himself is holy. But he's becoming increasingly ethereal and psychically attuned, until his death is inevitable. He dies for their sins, and in his name they will make peace and reaffirm their centuries-old vow against all forms of violence. Needless to say, readers did not take kindly to this, feeling that the society's setup allows for many other answers.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The game was shockingly advanced for 1984, containing elements now taken for granted in CRPGs, such as a choice of the race and gender of your avatar, NPC characters reacting differently based on your choice of avatar, and certain game mechanics working slightly differently based on your choice. Kindar characters get less nutrition from meat and also lose psychic abilities, taking some time to recover; and Erdlings were hit harder by Wissenberries, for example. It was also completely non-linear and offered several different ways to achieve the end goal.
