- Alternative Character Interpretation: Preston Northwest seemed quite willing to be one of Bill's "horsemen of the apocalypse." Is he just trying to manipulate Bill like he has the other citizens of Gravity Falls, or just wants to join what he thinks is the winning side, or is he even worse than the Abusive Parent we've seen and actually wants the apocalypse to happen?
- Ascended Meme: Dipper's line that "The nachos tricked me!" is a pretty apt reference to the fandom's jokes comparing Bill to a Dorito.
- Cry for the Devil: Gideon when Dipper convinces him to make a Heel–Face Turn, because his first question is, "Do you know what Bill will do to me?" and he has memento photographs of his first date with Mabel that he looks at before making his decision.
- And when he finally makes his decision: "Will you tell her what I did?" Implying that doesn't believe he'll get the chance to tell her himself.
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- One fan had drawn a pic of what would've happened had Bill managed to get a hold of the Journal in "Sock Opera", with him (in Dipper's body) burning it. Come this episode, guess what Bill actually does?
- Louis CK repeatedly asking people to "get in my mouth" got a lot less funny when he admitted to several cases of sexual harassment a couple years later. Alex Hirsch went so far as to dub the lines himself for syndication.
- Iron Woobie: Wendy. She sounds like her old self when mentioning how she and her friends were hanging out at the graveyard when the apocalypse happened, if it were an ordinary day in Gravity Falls. Then she represses it in favor of encouraging Dipper to find Mabel, and to remind him of how he defeated Bill twice.
- Nightmare Fuel: The face that Bill gives Preston has been considered by some to be the scariest thing ever shown on Gravity Falls.
- The Woobie: Dipper goes through a Trauma Conga Line in this episode; not only does the world end and Mabel is missing, but Bill turns Ford into gold before his eyes, burns the journals, and sets two hungry demons on him. Three days later, he's starving and alone, having failed to find Grunkle Stan or Mabel. If not for Wendy encouraging him, he would've crossed the Despair Event Horizon and admit that Bill's won.
- Pacifica gets a tiny but significant moment, when after calling out her father for sucking up to Bill she witnesses Preston Northwest undergoing Facial Horror. Preston might have deserved such a fate for being a Consummate Liar, Manipulative Bastard and an Abusive Parent, but Pacifica did not deserve to witness the only father she has suffer a Fate Worse than Death.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Bill vs. Time Baby! ...is over in a few seconds after Bill vaporizes him.
