• Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: Due to the combination of the very solid ties this game has to the series' lore and It's Short, So It Sucks!, many fans care more about the game's story than its actual gameplay, sometimes even advocating watching liveplays of it on video streaming sites in order to enjoy the story without actually spending the money on a copy of the game.
• Fridge Horror: Grunkle Stan reveals that Dipper nearly died as a baby due to being strangled by one of the umbilical cords, whilst Mable was born literally fighting fit—the first thing she did upon being born was punch a doctor. That's overtly horrible enough, but then think about the Broken Base who think that Mabel profits by abusing Dipper's generosity to her: this reveal not only ties into that whole interpretation, but shows her as essentially having been exploiting Dipper since they were babies in the womb.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Candy mentions she dreamed she was eating Earth. That's exactly what Bill Cipher plans to do in the finale.
• It's Short, So It Sucks!: The most common criticism of the game is that it can be beaten within 5 hours.
