- Award Snub: Despite rave reviews across the board and Robert Pattinson's performance being highly praised in critic circles, quite a few even naming him actor of the year, the film was completely ignored at the Academy Awards.
- Awesome Music: The soundtrack by Oneohtrix Point Never is jaw-dropping throughout, and rightly won first prize at Cannes.
- Diagnosed by the Audience:
- Nick is heavily implied to have Down syndrome and wears hearing aids.
- Connie has been taken for a manipulative sociopath, seeing as he has no real positive personality traits (save for the fact he does seem to love his brother, though that doesn't stop him from involving him in a bank robbery).
- Corey seems to have issues, too, being an Extreme Doormat prone to mood swings with a short attention span.
- He Really Can Act: Robert Pattinson had been rectifying his post-Twilight reputation for years with meaty supporting roles, but Good Time really made waves for him as a different kind of leading man.
- Jerkass Woobie: Connie is a manipulative, thieving scumbag through and through, but all he really wants is to be reunited with his brother and have somewhere for them to live comfortably in (clearly something they never had growing up). Also take into consideration that he likely has no one else on the entire planet who actually gives a crap about him, which depending on who you ask might well be his own fault but still it’s hard not pity the poor guy at the end...
- Love to Hate:
- Robert Pattinson does such a damn good job playing Connie that it's hard to outright hate or like his character no matter how much of a lying, cheating bastard he is.
- Ray is a foul-mouthed, criminal scumbag just like Connie, save for a lack of sympathetic qualities, but Buddy Duress’s scene-stealing performance and oftentimes hilarious lines as well as his long uncut monologue fleshing out his backstory, a scene many critics and viewers describe as a highlight of the film, make him hard to outright despise. Some were even saddened by his death, even if he totally had it coming.
- Memetic Mutation: "You think you're better than me." "I am better than you."note
- Squick: Connie making out with Crystal, who’s only sixteen years old. Granted, it was originally meant to distract her from the sight of his mugshot on the TV, but we later see them in the beginning stages of getting physically intimate on her bed, which seems entirely like a choice on Connie's behalf. If it weren’t for Ray’s sudden appearance, it’s heavily implied they would’ve taken it further.
