YMMV / Goku: Midnight Eye

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Seemingly an upstanding businessman, Genji Hakuryu is really a ruthless Arms Dealer who uses a psychic woman to hypnotize any detectives trailing him into committing suicide. Eventually killing all seven detectives the police have trailing him, Hakuryu goes on to attempt the same hypnosis-induced suicide on Goku. Selling to a general a chemical weapon which could potentially kill hundreds of thousands, Hakuryu then turns around and sells another weapon to the enemy country of the general he had just does business with, not caring who dies as long as he profits.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One scene in the manga shows an unspecified James Bond film being advertised in a cinema. The story takes place in 2014, so Terasawa in the late eighties was off by just a year considering how the real life Spectre was released in 2015.
  • Narm:
    • The series presents us with the sight of a diminutive tin man riding a stripper-gynoid equipped with a motorcycle handlebar, tiger traits and a laser cannon on her mouth, and yes, it is played completely seriously. Needlessly to say, this ends up being some high-octane narm in midst of a badass action sequence.
    • Goku never wearing a shirt under his jacket and tie is as ridiculous as the fact that nobody ever points it out. Combined with Goku's usual demeanor, it comes across as such a cheap macho factor for his character that it can be hard not to laugh.
