YMMV / Going Under

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: When interrupting Caffiend's meeting during the tutorial, he'll mention that Joblin toilets are now slanted to increase productivity, and exploring Joblin on revisits may reveal the aforementioned slanted toilet seat. While it's not to the ridiculous 45 degree angle shown in-game, slanted toilet seats designed to discourage extended restroom use exist. Use of them, however, is illegal anywhere that has disability protections in place. note
  • Anti-Climax Boss: Avie is notably easier compared to Vested Marv, in part thanks to Vested Marv leaving behind the very high-damaging and fairly durable Union Buster after his defeat, which effortlessly cuts down the enemy hordes Avie summons to put on the pressure, to say nothing of how said enemies often get caught in Avie's own heavily-telegraphed attacks. To make things even easier, healing items not too infrequently drop into the arena.
  • Awesome Art: The art style of the game is very bright and colorful, and everything just pops so pleasingly.
  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack is great to chill and relax to both in game and out, containing a mix of soothing beats and frenetic drops.
  • Demonic Spiders: Players will learn to hate Joblifters, the big dolly-carrying Joblins in the first dungeon. They have more health than the rest of the enemies down there, are decently fast and aggressive, and their Tornado Move covers a lot of ground and can be challenging to avoid when other enemies are present.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Swomp is beloved by fans for his laid-back and quirky antics. Notably, he's also the only one to directly assist within the dungeons.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: This is pretty much the criticism surrounding the second half of the game. While the beginning of the game was very well balanced and had a quite reasonable difficulty curve for a roguelike, the True Founder Mode increases the difficulty to an absurd degree by throwing every Demonic Spiders from their respective dungeons at you, to the point where the game wants the player to max all your mentors to Level 4 to even have a chance to survive. It was even worse in the original release since the player was permanently locked into True Founder Mode once Marv is defeated for the first time. But despite the developers patching the game and trying to balance things around, the second half became the biggest negative point of the game for many players since its release. Those who beat the game even recommend new players to turn Assist Mode on so that they can beat the second half with no issues.
  • Funny Moments: As a comedy-oriented game, there's plenty to go around.
    • Considering the variety of weapons you can use, some fights can get particularly silly. Standout examples include the Low-Hanging Fruit, the Sticky Hand, and the T-Shirt Cannon.
    • The first stand-up meeting. Marv ends it with the company chant:
      Marv: "WHAT DO WE MAKE?"
      Everyone: "FIZZLE!"
      Marv: "WHAT CAN IT DO?"
Everyone: "REPLACE BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND DINNER!"
Marv: "Why do we make it?"
      [Beat]
[Marv's text box is underscored with "seen 9:31 am"]
Marv: Come on, guys, you know this one!
      [Beat]
[Marv's text box is underscored with "seen 9:32 am"]
    • Halfway through the game, the Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure comes to fruition and the tensions between the Fizzle employees bubble up, ending with everyone declaring they hate each other... and then Swomp appears right after cluelessly asking what's going on.
    • Pretty much anything Swomp does, for that matter.
      • According to one of Kara's dialogue lines, Swomp has been attempting to teach Eclaire how to beatbox.
      • One cutscene happens to cut midway into an anecdote he's telling to his coworkers around the water cooler. All we get to know about it is that at some point he gets completely slathered in chipotle mayo sauce.
      • His first mentor power is to follow you into the dungeons and "swomplift" the "free" items from the shops.
      • Max out Swomp's mentorship, and his rolodex entry describes him as Jackie's long-lost father who abandoned her at a burger joint for her own safety so that he could fight for Cascadian secession... but also because he "couldnt be seen with such a nerd baby lmao swomp out".
    • The conversation to get Fern's business card involves him tasting it, and treating Jackie's business card being printed with normal printing methods as unpleasant.
