  • Anvilicious: The film really does tend to focus less on its characters and far more on Goldthwait saying that this generation sucks.
  • Catharsis Factor: The movie lets you experience (by proxy) the thrill of just shooting all the jerkasses in your path, yet it also shows that ultimately, you can't kill them all and the society will just step over your body and carry on as it was before.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The line was last seen as soon as the first thought that led to the script of this movie was thought.
  • Do Not Do This Cool Thing: Practically an inversion. There are a few token "tsk-tsk" moments concerning Frank and Roxy's carnage, but for the most part the audience is expected to revel in their Disproportionate Retribution killing spree and cheer them on for it.
  • Draco in Leather Pants:
    • Roxy is a huge sociopath with sadism that rivals King Joffrey, and yet is swooned over by fans of the film.
    • Also, Chloe to some extent, due to being blonde and pretty, despite being a total whiner and clearly an Alpha Bitch.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The scene with Frank and Roxy shooting up a movie theater is already uncomfortable to watch, but it will make you feel even worse after the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting occurred inside a movie theater.
  • Questionable Casting: The Bill O'Reilly expy, unlike the real thing, looks way too young to have been eligible for (and subsequently dodged) the draft.
  • Squick:
    • Roxy's behavior toward Frank comes off as this, particularly the way she keeps asking him if he thinks she's pretty and if he would be with her if they were the same age.
    • Killing Chloe's mother appears to give Roxy an orgasm.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Frank's boss is portrayed as a huge Jerkass for firing Frank, but Frank's behavior, going into records and getting Karen's home address, is extremely creepy.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Some negative reception for the film was due to critics who thought that the script was basically that of Falling Down.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Chloe and the teenagers Frank and Roxy shoot in the movie theater. Yes, Chloe was a spoiled brat and possibly a huge bully, and the teenagers were rude, but they were still just kids. Chloe, more so than the others, since we get a close up of her face as she screams in desperation while Frank tries to set her Escalade on fire, and also being to some people a Draco in Leather Pants.
