- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Mainland Europe (especially Italy and to a lesser degree Spain), Latin America, the Middle East* , the rest of southeast Asia, etc. He only really failed to take off in the States, though this changed a good deal with the release of DEVILMAN crybaby.
- LGBT Fanbase: His Author Appeal seems to include queer themes, and therefore he has attained this audience. Devilman for instance has the relationship between Akira and Ryo laced with Homoerotic Subtext that even is outright confirmed in some incarnations, not to mention that Ryo's true form of Satan is a Hermaphrodite. This continues with Devilman Lady and its yuri themes. Speaking of yuri, his character Cutey Honey got this through Re: Cutie Honey having quite a bit of yuri subtext and possible confirmation between Honey and Natsuko.
- Misaimed Fandom: Or rather in this case, Misaimed Hatedom. Many have accused Go Nagai of glorifying rape, misogyny and violence against women in his stories. What these people completely overlook is that all the characters who are rapists in Go Nagai's stories are always portrayed as villains and Hate Sinks who always meet their karma by getting brutally killed, often in gruesome ways. That alone should make it clear that Go Nagai has a severe distaste for rapists and that he does NOT at all glorify such actions.
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Believe or not, some of his most extreme works such as Devilman or Violence Jack were originally published in shonen magazines, despite their huge amounts of graphic violence, nudity and sexuality.
