  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Inside the saloon in Act 2: Western Film, the head and hooves of a giant demon bull are stuck in the wall. Rolling into its mouth causes the skater to be ejected from a boarded back door that does not in any way or shape betray the sight inside. There is no Western film genre convention that calls for a giant demon bull and nothing about its presence gets explained. Other odd sights in the game are quirky, but this one is bizarre.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In Act 2: Western Film, there's a building billed as Miss Katie's Saloon. This is an homage to Katie Rice, a character designer who worked at Spümcø, Inc during 2001-2002. She did not work on Go! Go! Hypergrind. In 2018, Katie Rice was one of the two women who came forward to accuse John Kricfalusi of pursuing them sexually when they were minors.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Of the six different challenges, the rank matches Battle and Race are loathed by the playerbase.
    • In Battle, skaters acquire a projectile weapon by performing a negative appeal and then have to shoot their opponent with it. There are three things that make Battle more chore than fun. For one, aiming is clunky and makes the overall best strategy to stand still and wait for the opponent to come to you. For two, the period of mercy invincibility is short and visually poorly communicated because a skater still blinks when they're already vulnerable again. Getting hit furthermore causes a skater to lose their weapon, so it's less of a battle and more who is quicker with the beatdown. And for three, despite the sizeable variety in wacky projectile weapons, there's no functional difference other than damage and speed.
    • In Race, skaters have to perform one negative appeal after another to find coins and status effects at random. It's the random part that isn't appreciated. A player can be as fast as humanly possible and still get, say, only red and yellow coins when blue is needed to finish the set.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Go! Go! Hypergrind is an extreme sports game with a soundtrack consisting of alternative rock, pop punk, punk rock, and post-grunge tunes. The signature character, Decker, is decidedly early 2000s punk with his spiky chin hair, baggy pants that leave much of his boxers exposed, exposed torso, and leather cuffs. Penny's look leans into Y2K futurism, Bob is everything that is the "bling bling" side of hip hop culture, and both the Johnson Bros and Piggy Sue are fashion remnants of the late 1990s.
