YMMV / Gilda

Go To

  • Award Snub: Entertainment Weekly cited Rita Hayworth's lack of a Best Actress Academy Award nomination as this.
  • Awesome Music: The songs "Put the Blame on Mame" and "Amado Mio".
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Johnny and Gilda realize they really do love each other, apologize for everything they've done to one another and walk off into the sunset together. How sweet! If you disregard the fact that their entire relationship up to that point has been about one-upping each other in terms of emotional, psychological and physical abuse, and that their marriage is unlikely to ever be a happy or healthy one.
  • Ho Yay: Between Johnny and Ballin, especially when Gilda first shows up. Johnny is unhappy about this because he had a previous relationship with Gilda, which ended badly, but the audience don't know this yet, so he seems unhappy because Ballin has found someone else.
Johnny: [to Ballin] You must lead a pretty gay life.
  • Mainstream Obscurity: Only the scenes on the page image and the page quote are well-known by those who aren't movie buffs - being featured in a scene from The Shawshank Redemption helped a lot.
  • Moment of Awesome: Pio back stabbing Ballin as he's about to shoot Johnny and Gilda.
  • Signature Scene: Gilda singing "Put the Blame on Mame" while doing a glove-only striptease.
