YMMV / Ghost Town (2008)

  • Heartwarming Moments: Pincus finally helping out the ghosts, including, by extension, one of his patients; one of the ghosts is her dead husband, explaining her talkative nature—she's lonely.
  • Moment of Awesome: When Pincus's co-worker gives him a motivational talk about not being "such a fucking prick" all of the time. Not only does this get him out of the slump he was in, but it convinces him to finally start trying to help the ghosts out.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Doubles with a Heartwarming Moment when Pincus reveals to a worker that the deaths of three of his co-workers wasn't his fault.
    • The dead father trying to convince Pincus to find his son's lost toy dog, since the poor kid lost the dog around when the dad died and mentally linked the two. And then, it turns out the boy's mother was one of Pincus's patients, who we'd seen being completely dismissive of earlier. Seeing him actually being nicer to her is a very happy Tear Jerker.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • While you're meant to be sympathetic towards the ghosts' plight (being ignored and wanting to talk to their loved ones), their initial attitude towards Pincus isn't exactly encouraging; instead of asking what his deal is with seeing them, most of them immediately launch into asking for favors from him. Granted it doesn't help when Pincus ran away at first, but it escalates when they go to his apartment in the middle of the night and wake him up so he can help them. (Again, they're there cause of Greg Kinnear who told them where Pincus lived). In what world did they think that would work? Waking someone up so he can do all these favors for you? Not one ghost actually tries to talk to Pincus about anything rather than what he can do for them. For the first half of the film, you can't help but agree somewhat with Pincus's whole attitude to them all ('Leave me alone.')
    • Frank as well can be seen as this especially during "The Reason You Suck" Speech he gives to Pincus saying he's a heartless son of a bitch. While Pincus certainly wasn't pleasant during various points in the film in the beginning, it's rather hypocritical of Frank to say this to him considering he cheated on his own wife before dying (even wanting to buy an apartment for his mistress) and set the other ghosts on Pincus to annoy him for his own selfish request of having his now widowed wife break up with an actually great guy who she could've had a second chance with. In all honesty, you can't help but feel bad for Pincus with what he has to deal with.
