• Values Resonance: The movie's depictions of gay men/exes, Kyle and Randall, was extremely progressive and well-done given when the movie took place. For many 90s movies, gay characters/couples were given a number of unsavory roles in stories - Overtly stereotyped, demonized, only vaguely hinted at, and/or die horrifically/tragically at some point in the movie with little to no characterization outside their sexuality. Here, both Kyle and Randall are given their own character traits, flaws, and moments just as much as their heterosexual counterparts. In particular, Kyle, is not only gay but also a Republican.
